There isn't really much of a plot, or indeed much meaning, until the end, where she finds herself having learned the great lesson, "don't prostitute yourself, even if you want to buy something really bad", as a result of a pseudo-rape at the hands of a client.

However, it has to be said, the best Japanese films are invariably peppered with graphic violence. Of course, I'm not so sick as to enjoy watching an hour and a half of constant blood and gore, but the occasional battle intertwined within a twisted, gripping plot is something which all of the best Japanese films invariably possess. Take the classic Battle Royale: Everybody knows it has deep meaning behind the inevitable bloodbath. I just love the cold, harsh reality of this kind of game that hopefully will never happen: it's like a film version of Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene. Girls who claim they are friends in the normal school environment end up poisoning and shooting eachother in the game, as the true nature of their friendship is exposed. And that's what this film is all about: true love, true friendship. That between Noriko and Nanahara is true love: sacrificing all for your soulmate; and Kawada's relationship with those two is another kind of love, also known as friendship.

But my favorite J-film of all time has to be the more recent Love Exposure, written and directed by Sion Sono. At over 4 hours long, it is one of those once in a lifetime films, and a piece of art that is extremely hard to summarize in one sentence. It is on the one hand extremely funny, tongue in cheek and ridiculously bizarre; on the other, it is a serious, epic tale about true love, cult religion and childhood trauma, and the disastrous effects this can have in later life (surely a nod to the writer/director's own painful childhood). Once I saw Love Exposure, I quickly went and bought Sion Sono's other works, such as Suicide Club and Noriko's Dinner Table.

Right now the true blood series is in the middle of season three. However, if you are just starting out you should watch both season 1 and season 2. Luckily there are many places on the Internet where you can watch full episodes of true blood without any hassle. Phone communication with her husband is difficult. Mark informs her that he can’t meet her as soon as expected – nor can he give her a definite arrival date. Back in the states, Juliette is a busy magazine editor. Here, she is relegated to simply waiting and her life slows to Cairo time. Striking out on her own to explore the city, forty something Juliette is thronged by un welcome attention from men young enough to be her son. She seeks refuge in the café that Tareq owns. The two slowly become friends.

This romance is largely played out on another level. Despite the lack of physical contact between the couple, Juliette undergoes a spiritual awakening and connects with her emotional longings for the first time in eons. Subtle, yes, but oh so powerful all the same. Credit director Nadda for capturing the richness of Cairo and for giving her actors free rein to express feelings. She has a delicate touch, but she achieves what she set out to do.

Hard to believe he’s the same dude who played Dr. Bashir in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is all class as the ever genial, sensitive tour guide. But if you want to talk acting, Clarkson who has dazzled in everything from Far From Heaven on the big screen to Six Feet Under on the small screen – delivers a near-flawless performance. Her voice barely rises above Cairo’s street traffic, but – whoa! – she emotes with the best of them: a tiny flick of the hand, a shake of her hair, a darting eye movement speak volumes here.

"Cairo Time" takes place in the heart of the city and environs. Memorable scenes include a visit to an all woman gathering in a Bedouin camp, the White Desert in the Sahara, a sailboat ride on the Nile, a journey Juliette and Tareq take to the Pyramids, and an Egyptian wedding complete with bellydancer and ululating guests. A satisfying, fully realized, and mature (in the best sense of the word) film, Cairo Time won "Best Feature Film" at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival. Exotic scenery and beautiful acting make this a love story as enduring as the sands of time.

mickey Rourke Stars in Ice Man

Mickey Rourke's career resurrection continues, with the actor committing to star in The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer says The Hollywood Reporter. Based on the book by Philip Carlo, Ice Man is the true story of Richard 'The Ice Man' Kuklinski, a contract killer for the mob who hid his profession from his wife and family. Kuklinski reportedly murdered more than 200 people over the 43 years he worked for the mob.

David McKenna is adapting Carlo's book for the screen.

"Richard Kuklinski's life and Philip Carlo's true account, three years in the making, is fascinating and unlike any mafia story that's been brought to the big screen," Matty Beckerman, the CEO of the production company Natural Selection, said in an interview at the Toronto Film Festival where the announcement was made.
